Staying Active & Nourished Through the Holiday Season
ƛasəm (Tosum) means Strong in our Tla’amin language, and a word that carries the heart of everything I do. Welcome to Article 14 by Tosum Ltd, where strength is medicine.
Charlene Muskego is a member of the Tla’amin Nation and lives in Treaty 6 territory with her husband and children from Cold Lake First Nation. Her late mother is Elsie Wilson, and her late sister is Kristina Wilson. She owns Tosum Ltd, which empowers individuals through fitness, nutrition, and personal transformation. Tosum Ltd, founded by Charlene Muskego of the Tla’amin Nation, is more than just a fitness and nutrition business; it is a movement rooted in strength, resilience, and culture. Our mission is to empower individuals through fitness, nutrition, and wellness, helping people reclaim their health and confidence while honouring body, mind, and spirit.
My why is simple as a mother, my 2 daughters are my reason, my drive, and my heart. They remind me daily that strength is not just built in the gym, it’s built in the heart, in the love we give, and in the family we nurture. I know first-hand the power of breaking intergenerational traumas, finding strength through movement, and creating stability for the next generation. As a mother, coach, and natural bikini bodybuilder for the last 11 years and still. I believe in empowering others that strength is medicine. Through Tosum Ltd, I help guide people to live healthier, more balanced lives while embracing the resilience within them.
Staying Active & Nourished Through the Holiday Season
The holiday season is a beautiful time of connection, celebration, and slowing down but it can also be a time when routines slip, energy dips, and motivation gets tested. With colder days, shorter daylight, and the busyness of family gatherings, it’s easy to lose momentum. The good news? Staying active and eating well during the holidays doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Small, intentional actions can make a big difference in your physical and mental well-being.
One of the most powerful things you can do is choose movement that feels good, not movement that feels forced. During the winter months, we naturally crave warmth and comfort, so lean into activities that match the season. Bundle up for a 20-minute walk with a hot tea, try a home workout you can do in your living room, or join a community class that fills your cup. Movement doesn’t have to be long or intense; consistency matters more than perfection.
This is also the time to stay connected. If motivation drops, invite a friend or ʔətᶿ jɛ?ajɛ family member to join you. Accountability makes movement more enjoyable, and it strengthens relationships during a hectic season. Even simple traditions, like a family walk after dinner or stretching together before bed, can support wellness for everyone.
On the nutrition side, balance is key. Holidays aren’t about restriction, they’re about mindful choices. I like to eat 80/20 flexible eating, 80% nourishing foods, 20% holiday treats. Enjoy without guilt. Try adding extra vegetables to your meals, staying hydrated, and eating slowly so you can truly enjoy your food. Plan nourishing meals during the week so you feel grounded when special events come up. Remember, it’s not about being perfect; it’s about supporting your energy, digestion, and mood.
By staying active, nourishing your body, and embracing balance, you’ll move through the holidays feeling stronger, lighter, and more present inside and out. You deserve that.
